Creative practice – a conversation with Yani about making art

A conversation with Yani about art today

We 3 went to paddington for a browse and then had coffee and biscuit at Sol breads. Joseph slept for a while. Was lovely to chat with Yani.

She said some things that really resonated with me given recent thinking about the role of research in practice, about reflective practice, methodology and how Ernest & Linda see me as working and how that is different to how I see it.

I bought a long, colourful dress too.

1. Dawn had said to her : when you’re learning, you can’t be creative. You can’t create, compose a painting I suppose, while you are learning a technique.

I think this is true, and it is relevant to the role of research during the creative process

2. Later she said, that is why people are creative with your sand work, they are comfortable with the sand & there is nothing to learn there or to slow them down before they can be creative.
